With both engaging literature selections and carefully sequenced writing lessons, this course, designed for upper middle school or high school instruction, builds students’ writing and reading skills. It will strengthen their critical thinking and analysis — all skills that are essential to effective performance on standardized assessments. Carefully designed daily lesson plans include detailed teacher instructions to reduce teacher preparation time, yet include a variety of student-centered activities that support classroom engagement. Correlated to state standards, this course is self-contained, with a student notebook that includes of all the short readings as well as writing activities. An easy-to-use pacing guide ensures completion of all required content. Teachers receive a condensed vignette of each of the short reading assignments and a comprehensive analysis of each of the six major works to reduce teacher preparation.
