Description
This course, designed for upper middle school or high school instruction, contains a collection of selected readings that is a diverse mix of familiar classics and contemporary voices, organized by genre and by theme. Reading skills, such as making inferences, determining the main idea, and summarizing, are taught and reinforced. The writing strand guides students step-by-step through the writing process, from pre-writing strategies through expository narrative, description and argumentation. Weekly vocabulary lessons build students’ vocabulary skills. Correlated to state standards, this course is self-contained, with a student notebook that includes all the short readings as well as writing activities. A pacing guide ensures completion of all required content. Daily lesson plans offer classroom-tested teaching strategies and daily class notes (as overhead masters or PowerPoint presentation) support effective classroom instruction.
