This is a long chapter. It covers everything from simple descriptive statistics to a survey of many types of graphical representations of data.
Most of the material covered in the first part of this chapter is included in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade curricula for most states. For that reason, many of the skills practiced in this chapter will be a review for many of your students.
This chapter also includes the first exposure to some of the technology that will be used for the remainder of the course. The technology most often used will be TI-83 calculators. If you are lucky enough to have classroom access to a statistical package or any other software that is out on the market then many of the activities can be adapted to those platforms.
