5th Grade Science

The 5th Grade Science course is written as a guide and handbook to coordinate with any grade 5 textbook. As an elementary teacher transferred from a self-contained 5 th grade classroom to a middle school 5 th and 6 th grade science curriculum, I readily admit to being overwhelmed and under trained for my new teaching position-but that was 18 years ago. Today, I am excited to say that there is nothing I would rather teach than science! After spending 12 years attending science workshops, institutes, and seminars, I am happy to share my best lessons, practices, and ideas with you.

This yearlong course is designed to walk you through each day with essential lessons plans and class notes, grade appropriate content strands, science classroom management techniques, simple grade level lab activities using everyday, low-cost materials, and assessments that target all student ability levels. Lessons will build on skills that are essential for student success at any age–writing skills, science process skills, and communication skills. Content is divided into three (3) strands of general science: Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science. Each strand will include topics that align with the national and state science standards and will insure that you have met the curriculum requirements while maintaining a fun, hands-on learning environment for you and your students.
