1st Grade Math

Debbie Wilson, the teacher-author of these materials, is the Executive Director of the Missouri Teachers of Science who wrote this and 1st Grade Science while a teacher in Springfield, Missouri.

The purpose of 1st Grade Science is to introduce young students to science by using a variety of age appropriate topics, hands-on materials, experiments, stories and videos. Students can learn that science is not memorization of facts, but a way of looking at their world. Your students will have the opportunity to “meet” many different scientists as they explore the tools of science, organisms, the sun and energy, motion, and the soil. Students will come to understand that science is made up of many different people, concepts and areas who all share a desire to better understand what makes our world the way it is and the ultimate goal of a true love of learning. This yearlong course is designed to walk you through each day with essential lessons plans and class notes, grade appropriate content strands, science classroom management techniques, simple grade level lab activities using everyday, low-cost materials, and assessments that target all student ability levels. Lessons will build on skills that are essential for student success at any age – writing skills, science process skills, and communication skills.
