Underlying all of human behavior is our biology and how it directs our behavior. Students should understand the methods psychologists and scientists use to study our biology. These methods include procedures such as ablation, direct stimulation, EEG, and other procedures such as CAT scans, PET scans, MRI, and fMRI. The brain is a key part of the nervous system, and a student should be aware of its anatomical and functional relationships among the somatic, central, and autonomic systems. Students should know about the neural structure and function. They should know about the electrochemical transmission of impulses. Also, it is important to understand the relationship between the nervous system and our endocrine system, and our genetic background and a focus on inherited human traits.
