Students will gain an understanding of and appreciation for our intellectual heritage as they explore events from the Renaissance to modern day. While this course is designed to challenge students, it is also meant to be fun and engaging with the purpose of whetting their appetites for further historical pursuits. Course materials cover a full year of study with an emphasis on not only learning historical content but also developing skills in critical thinking, reading and writing.

The printed or eBook teacher’s edition includes support material for the entire school year including syllabus, pacing guide, detailed daily lesson plans, editable class notes (in PowerPoint form),  complete student activity book and editable assessments. Lessons include class notes for lecture support, activities and assignments are designed to engage students in the content while introducing and reviewing essential skills.

The College Board course description that follows has been closely adhered to in the preparation of these instructional support materials: “The study of European history since 1450 introduces students to cultural, economic, political, and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the world in which they live. Without this knowledge, we would lack the context for understanding the development of contemporary institutions, the role of continuity and change in present-day society and politics, and the evolution of current forms of artistic expression and intellectual discourse. In addition to providing a basic narrative of events and movements, the goals of the AP program in European History are to develop (a) an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European History, (b) an ability to analyze historical evidence and historical interpretation, and (c) an ability to express historical understanding in writing.” (source: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_eurohist.html?eurohist)
