Advanced (AP) European History, aligned to the College Board AP© curriculum, is a course designed to introduce high school students to the subject with the rigor of college academics. Students will gain an understanding of and appreciation for our intellectual heritage as they explore events from the Renaissance to modern day. While this course is designed to challenge students, it is also meant to be fun and engaging with the purpose of whetting their appetites for further historical pursuits. Course materials cover a full year of study with an emphasis on not only learning historical content but also developing skills in critical thinking, reading and writing.

The printed teacher’s edition with CD includes correlation to standards; syllabus; pacing guide; detailed daily lesson plans, editable assessments, editable class notes (in PowerPoint form), and complete student activity book. Lessons include class notes, activities and assignments designed to engage students in the content while introducing and reviewing essential skills.

The College Board course description that follows has been closely adhered to in the preparation of these instructional support materials: “The study of European history since 1450 introduces students to cultural, economic, political, and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the world in which they live. Without this knowledge, we would lack the context for understanding the development of contemporary institutions, the role of continuity and change in present-day society and politics, and the evolution of current forms of artistic expression and intellectual discourse. In addition to providing a basic narrative of events and movements, the goals of the AP program in European History are to develop (a) an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European History, (b) an ability to analyze historical evidence and historical interpretation, and (c) an ability to express historical understanding in writing.” (source: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_eurohist.html?eurohist)

Course materials cover the full year of the course with support for all aspects of learning and instruction. The Teacher’s Edition includes a syllabus, correlation to standards, pacing guide, daily lesson plans, teacher’s workbook, CD with daily class notes in PDF (for use as color overheads and/or Power Points), and complete assessments. Classroom sets includes 25 Student Workbooks and a Teacher Edition with CD. After purchase of the Teacher’s Edition, additional Student Workbooks are available for individual purchase.
