## Description

Advanced Physics is a second-year course for students who have already had some basic physics (including Newton’s laws of motion, momentum and energy conservation, kinetic and potential energy, Ohm’s equation and Coulomb’s law) and who intend to study science or engineering in college. Some familiarity with algebra, geometry, simple trigonometry, and scientific notation is necessary. The emphasis in this course is on discovery; students are led to discover or figure out the basic laws of physics and their logical consequences. Students completing this course are well-prepared for the Advanced Placement “C” examinations in both Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism. Necessary calculus concepts are developed within this course, but a real calculus course taken concurrently is recommended.
