Public Speaking

ONE SEMESTER COURSE MATERIALS

Public Speaking is a performance course. Students will work to improve the communication skills of public speaking and listening A variety of speeches are prepared, presented and critiqued during the semester. Students do self-evaluations and peer evaluations throughout the course. Presentational opportunities include speeches to inform, persuade, and entertain. One presentation that each student gives several times is called "Opening the class." A different student opens the class every day. Extemporaneous and impromptu presentational styles delivery are emphasized. Students will have an opportunity to pre-present to peers and interested parties. The primary purpose of the course is to give students an opportunity to make a variety of presentations in the public realm and improve their presentational and listening skills.
