British Literature

by Christopher C. Swann

FULL YEAR COURSE MATERIALS

This full-year course spans the period from medieval times to the post-colonial era of British literature. Using the new historicism approach to literature instruction, the course materials assist students who may have little knowledge or interest in Britain to see British literature in the context of the country’s role in history, and its changing social system. Cycling from prose to poetry in short units maximizes student interest without losing the continuity that allows lessons to build on prior student knowledge. Daily lesson plans provide historical content and context for both teacher and students, integrating social studies seamlessly. Writing assignments and vocabulary builders reinforce language arts skills. A pacing guide provides a complete outline of the daily lessons, including readings, assessments, homework and project assignments. Out-of-field teachers will value the teacher-friendly instructional materials that will reduce teacher preparation time and support daily instruction.
