Grant Estabished for Florida Teachers

A grant was established by the Florida Legislature and approved by the Governor in the budget for the 2014-2015 and 2015-16 school years.

Teachers in Florida School Districts can apply for a grant to pay for tuition when enrolling teachers with new or unavoidable out-of-field assignments in the Expert Systems for Teachers™ Series of over 100 online independent study courses through participating universities.

Enrollment: Florida Teachers with out-of-field assignments can simply read the details and fill out an enrollment form to register with a participating the university. This sustained professional development program series will, with complete instructional and mwntoring support, save teachers hundreds of hours of prep time and enable them to confidently deliver content to their students.

Funding: The tuition for these professional development courses may be funded through the new state grant as funds last or, after that grant has been exhausted, from: Title I and Title IIA (Improving Teacher Quality State Grants), Title 5 (Innovative Programs), state professional development and school improvement budgets, foundations, etc.

Reason for the grant: There is a need for subject-specific instructional support so teachers can meet the challenges of new teaching assignments. TEACHINGpoint was established to develop comprehensive teacher preparation and instructional support materials written by expert teachers who understand the needs of novice teachers, teachers with new assignments and teachers facing out-of-field assignments — The Expert Systems for Teachers™ Series of TEACHINGpoint instructional support materials is grounded in research-based best practices (a better prepared teacher leads to improved student achievement) and currently serves schools in all 50 U.S. states and over 85 countries.
